General Admission Requirements for Community College Programs


M.A.T. in Community College Education

Admission Criteria — To be eligible for admission to the program, the applicant must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, meet the basic requirements specified for graduate students at Mississippi State University, demonstrate interest in the mission of community colleges, and demonstrate academic proficiency based on the following indicators : (a) grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale on the last half of the bachelor's degree, (b) GRE score results, (c) three letters of reference, and (d) indication of teaching specialty (e.g., history) in the purpose statement.

M.S. in Counselor Education with an Emphasis in Student Affairs/M.S. in Student Affairs and Higher Education

Admission Criteria — To be eligible for admission to the program, the applicant must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, meet the basic requirements specified for graduate students at Mississippi State University, demonstrate interest in the mission of student affairs, and demonstrate academic proficiency based on the following indicators : (a) grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on the last half of the bachelor's degree, (b) GRE score results, (c) three letters of reference, and (d) professional resume – highlighting Student Affairs experience (if any).

M.S. in Workforce Education Leadership

Admission Criteria — To be eligible for admission to the program, the applicant must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, meet the basic requirements specified for graduate students at Mississippi State University, demonstrate interest in the mission of community colleges and/or workforce issues, and demonstrate academic proficiency based on the following indicators : (a) grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale on the last half of the bachelor's degree, (b) GRE score results, (c) three letters of reference, and (d) purpose statement.

Ph.D. in Community College Leadership

Admission Criteria — To be eligible for admission to the program, the applicant must hold a master's degree from an accredited institution, meet the basic requirements specified for graduate students at Mississippi State University, demonstrate interest in the mission of community colleges, have at least three years of work experience in a community college, and demonstrate academic proficiency based on the following indicators : (a) grade point average (GPA) of 3.40 on a 4.0 scale for all graduate-level credit hours completed; (b) GRE score results; (c) writing sample; (d) three letters of reference, (e) structured interview; and (f) current resume.
